I agree with Mr. Milan about Boone's and Richard's versions of Tutti Frutti. The first thing I noticed when I started listening to them is that one Boone's version of Tutti Frutti contained much better production quality. They both have awesome vioces but theres just something about Little Richard's vioce that got me all "hyped up" about his song. I guess his voice is just a bit more catchy than Boone's. Boone has the typical 1950's white singer voice. Hes a decent cover artist but hes not as good as the original thing.

This song sounds really similar to Bob Dylan's "The Times Are A Changin." They both have the same dark tone that simulates a dark message. Mr. Dylan's song is a song predicting all the unfortunate things that are going to happen to the world. And This song just states what is happening in the current world, and it is not good. Dylan's song is more of a story than Mr. McGuire's. McGuire's song is a story but it also has a chorus which makes it more of a song.

Album Review

Rick James new album is Gold and came out only months after Rich James devastating death on March 1st 2005. This album was released by the Motown records label and comes with some of James best songs such as “You and I”, and Cold Blooded.” Rick James is one of the Funk legends and through this album one can easily understand why. Even though it is just a recollection of some of James old songs it is still a great album for any Rick James fan. Rick James fans will be pleased with this album because of its compilation of James greatest hits, although there are some songs that should have been added to this album such as Ghetto Life. Anyways, the songs in this album retain James wild attitude and show why he is the King of Punk Funk. One particular song I was impressed by is “U Bring the Freak Out”, a true display of James talent in funk music. This is a good album for Rick James lovers and for anyone who is particularly interested in old funk music. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Required Listening List Blog Response

The first song that caught my attention and the song I was most familiar was by Parliament Funkadelic. Their song "We want the Funk" really caught my attention because it was actually the most familiar. To me it felt very 70's like. It was exactly how I imagined 70's music like. It is very catchy and a good dance song of the 1970’s. Some words are repeated very often in this song such as “funk” and “rhythm.” I am not sure of the message of the song but it seemed very plain with no meaning, something about catching the funk. Besides that the rhythm and beat is very good.

The second song I chose is called “House of the Rising Sun.” This one is by the Animals and it is very different than the first one. It is much more calm and more of a story than the first one. From what I got the house is a bad place that caused misery to the writer. But he feels he should be punished for the evil he caused there so he is going back there for punishment. What caught my attention was the story. It is very good and so is the organ solo.

The final song that caught my attention was “The Times They are a-Changin” by Bob Dylan. I remembered it from class as the “psychic” song. From the song it tells of change that is coming: rebellion, misfortune, and possibly death. It was definitely the calmest of all the songs I picked. It is also the most mellow and story-like song. The story is a bit scary since Spencer explained to us all of the events after this song that fitted the misfortune that Bob Dylan talked about.
